Lighten Up with a Spring Fling~getting rid of unwanted
stuff to put a bounce back in your step!
I used to think I was orgainized but as life became more
"filled" with a husband, three sons and a very cute cocker spaniel,
my white-glove-clean home became a bit more cluttered. I tried to
squeeze in random acts of closet kindness, but laundry, carpool nd pet
grooming just seemed to always get in the way.
A couple of
years ago my friend introduced me to Debra Michaud, wonderful woman who
is a home organizer. Debra came into my home and instantly spotted
some areas where simple changes would make a big impact.
Fast forward to today...Debra now writes a column (Deb's
Tips)in our magazine, for her information:
CHICAGO, where she shares her trade secrets and so much more! We welcome
Debra to our FHI Connection newsletter this week
to shed some light on the fling we all want to avoid~spring
cleaning!

Spring
De-Cluttering
There is a
spring ritual that we all know about and many of us
partake in. We
call it Spring Cleaning.
Spring represents renewal and
rejuvenation. It is apt that we
choose spring to think about rejuvenating our homes with fresh, clean energy.
Id like to
challenge you to bring your spring cleaning to a new level by examining
the things you surround yourself with, and resolving to part with those
things which have outlived
their purpose in your life.
Clearing out clutter can be a powerful, transformative, and
deliciously rejuvenative practice.
Clutter is stagnating energy, it is the physical manifestation of a mental rut. You can imagine the possibilities
that open up when
you get that energy moving again.
So lets
make this your first annual spring de-cluttering mission.
-
Pick a spot in the home that needs a lift
then envision that space as you want it.
-
With
donation box or recycling bags in hand, ask yourself the following
questions of each item in that space.
- When was the
last time I used this? If it's been more than a year why am I keeping
it?
- Do I love it?
Is it beautiful? (If it
was a gift, and you dont love it, mentally thank the person for their thoughtfulness and then
pass the good cheer on by donating it).
- Am I holding onto
the past or a fantasy of the present?
- Do my things
represent who I am today?
These simple
questions will bring you to freedom from clutter and help you make your
home look and feel lighter, just in time for spring!

Thanks to
Debra, we all will have a little more spring in our step!
