I'm
delighted to share information about two special
events happening in and around Chicago over
the next couple of weeks. First, the Cooking
Up Change Benefit:
Remember
growing up and eating hot lunches in school?
Mystery
meat, rubber chicken, you remember. Well, help
is on the way because the Healthy Schools Campaign
is making tracks. With national allies such
as the Healthy Schools Network and the National
Alliance for Nutrition and Activity (to name
a few), this organization is walking their talk.
With
a mission to advocate policies and practices
that allow all students, teachers and staff
to learn and work in a healthy school environment,
people are starting to stand up and take notice.
The Healthy Schools Campaign has supported legislation
(that sailed through the House and Senate, making
Illinois the second state in the nation to require
green cleaning in schools) and is currently
working on legislation that supports energy
efficient school construction.
For
Her Information Media
is a proud featured sponsor of the important
Cooking
Up Change annual benefit taking place
Thursday, October 18, 2007 from 6-9 p.m. at
Salvage One Architectural Elements in Chicago.
The event is a benefit to support the Healthy
Schools Campaign, celebrate good friends, food
and good work.
In
partnership with Kendall College and the Chicago
Public Schools, the event will launch a Healthy
Cooking Contest for high school students enrolled
in the Chicago Public Schools Education to Careers
Culinary Arts Program. Guests at Cooking up
Change will have the opportunity to taste the
students' award-winning creations as they mingle
with friends, colleagues and celebrity judges,
and cast a ballot for a special healthy cooking
contest audience award.
