Hard Labor

Friday,September 2, 2005

I had so much to tell you this week about Labor Day, Labor Pains and the like; but as I watch television I find myself moved to tears as I see mothers holding their near-lifeless children in their arms--begging for food and water.

As I'm drinking my water bottle I realize that it is really a luxury, something that I think I've taken for granted for so long.

When I was a flight attendant a million years ago, I used to lay over in New Orleans all of the time; it was always an adventure.  So to see the devastation and loss of life here in our own country is just unbelieveable.

How can we make a difference?  What can we do? Mothers, sisters, daughters, women.  I keep waiting and watching the news hoping for some kind of sign, telling me what I'm supposed to do to help--and for a "do-er" like me, it is very hard!

We're told to stay away from the area and let the relief workers do their jobs--but I can't help but wonder, as we all are, how long will our fellow Americans have to sit and wait?  Every one of us wants to do something as we sit helpless, watching and hoping that we can avoid more senseless deaths.

As a community we can offer time, donations and possibly even a place for someone to call home--their new home.

I know I'm weary of where to send my donations, so as recommended to me, I will share with you what I have found out:
